Microsoft: New Mac mini, new Mac Pro won’t ship until January
Microsoft Corp. said Wednesday it will ship a new Mac mini in January and a new Pro Mac in February, with a new model in early 2019.
The announcement comes amid speculation that Apple’s MacBook Pro, which is expected to hit store shelves later this year, will arrive in early December.
Apple will also be launching the first-ever “Apple TV” set-top box for the first time in 2019, the company said.
The Mac mini and the new Pro are available starting Feb. 1 and include the Apple TV remote, as well as the company’s new “Apple Watch” smartwatch.
Apple said the new Mac Pros are “built with premium components and features to deliver the best possible experience for you.”
The new Macs also have a 13-inch Retina display and a Thunderbolt 3 graphics processor.
The company will sell both new Mac and Mac Pro models starting in January 2019, according to the company.
Microsoft has a $2.8 trillion business, but analysts have said the Mac business has slowed as its smartphone market has become more saturated.
Apple reported third-quarter profit of $938 million, or 37 cents per share, compared with $1.45 billion a year earlier.
The stock is up about 10% this year.
